What would have been the 13th Annual Greenland Concert Series has been canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Organizers from the Greenland Women’s Club and the Greenland Veterans expressed disappointment that the shows would not go on but felt that they were making the most prudent and responsible decision. “We had a great lineup of bands for this year,” said Barbara Fleming, “and we’ve invited them all back for 2021 instead. The concerts always draw heavily from our older population who are the most vulnerable. Hopefully, there will be better treatments and a vaccine available by then to minimize the risk.”
Traditionally the Greenland Citizen of the Year Award has been presented at the first concert of the season. The Greenland Women’s Club, which sponsors the award, decided in March to postpone seeking nominations until the extent of the pandemic could be determined. Although there still is not a public gathering scheduled at which the recipient could be honored, the Club has decided to open nominations through September 30. Submissions may be mailed to GWC-Citizen of the Year at P.O. Box 151, Greenland NH 03840, or emailed to [email protected]. Nominations should be in the form of a letter, detailing the reasons why the nominee should be selected, and must be signed. How and when the award will be presented will be announced at a later date.
