Wellbeing Check Program

Purpose
To provide a community service of checking on elderly residents, who live alone and may have medical problems that would prevent them from calling for help.

Requirements
The resident will be required to register with the Greenland Police Department.  The wellbeing checks will be conducted for a maximum period of three months.  The resident can have the checks for an indefinite number of three-month periods for the duration of the program, provided that the registration information is updated every three months with the Greenland Police Department

  • The resident will be required to notify the police department if they will be out of the home (i.e. vacations, overnight trips, etc) to ensure that forced entry will not be made unnecessarily.
  • Residents participating in this program will be required to complete a “Vial of Life” information packet and keep the information current.
  • Residents participating in this program will be required to sign a form indicating that the police department can take whatever action necessary in entering the residence if contact is not made by phone or the officer’s response to the home.

Program
The resident would be required to call the Greenland Police Department between the hours of 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.  If the resident does not call, a representative from the police department will call the house to see if anyone is home.  If no one answers the telephone, a police officer will be dispatched to the residence to see if anyone needs assistance.  If no one answers the door, the police officer will make forced entry into the residence to see if anyone is in need of medical assistance.

  • The Greenland Volunteer Ambulance will be dispatched to the residence if the officer determines that there is a medical emergency.  The officer will also contact the resident’s emergency contact and notify them of the situation.
